The relationship between chips (also known as semiconductors or integrated circuits) and artificial intelligence (AI) is foundational — AI cannot function without chips, and modern chip design is increasingly driven by AI workloads.

Lower power consumption (especially for mobile/edge AI).

Use of chiplets, 3D stacking, and heterogeneous computing (mixing CPU + GPU + NPU).

3. AI Helps Design Chips

AI is now used to design chips themselves — this is called EDA-AI (Electronic Design Automation using AI):

AI optimizes chip layouts, transistor placement, and routing.

Reduces time-to-market and improves performance/power tradeoffs.

4. Edge AI vs. Cloud AI Chips

Cloud AI: Powerful chips (NVIDIA A100, AMD MI300, etc.) used in data centers.
