A power management chip is a chip used to control and monitor power in a system, and is usually used in portable devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets. They can implement functions such as battery charging, power conversion, and power management. Generally speaking, a power management chip has multiple pins, and different pins have different functions. In this article, I will introduce 8 typical power management chip pins in detail.

vcc (Pin 1)

The VCC pin is the power input pin of the power management chip. It is usually connected to the positive pole to provide power to the whole circuit. When using a power management chip, the VCC pin must be connected correctly, otherwise the circuit will not work. In some cases, in order to protect the circuit, the VCC pin may also be short-circuited with other pins.

GND (Pin 2)

The GND pin is the ground pin of the power management chip. It is usually connected to the negative pole to provide return to the whole circuit. When using a power management chip, the GND pin must be connected correctly, otherwise the circuit will not work. At the same time, the GND pin can also play a role in reducing noise and stabilizing signals.

EN (Pin 3)

The EN pin is the enable control pin of the power management chip. When the EN pin receives a high level, the chip starts to work; when the EN pin receives a low level, the chip stops working. The EN pin can be used to save power, extend battery life, and more. The EN pin can also be short-circuit protected to other pins in some cases.

PG (Pin 4)

The PG pin is the power monitoring pin of the power management chip. It can detect whether the power input is normal and output a corresponding signal. When the power input is normal, the PG pin outputs high level; when the power input is abnormal, the PG pin outputs low level. The PG pin can be used to implement functions such as overvoltage protection and undervoltage protection.

BAT (Pin 5)

The BAT pin is the battery monitoring pin of the power management chip. It can detect whether the battery power is sufficient and output a corresponding signal. When the battery power is sufficient, the BAT pin outputs a high level; when the battery power is insufficient, the BAT pin outputs a low level. The BAT pin can be used to implement functions such as battery charging and battery protection.

REG (Pin 6)

The REG pin is the output voltage control pin of the power management chip. It can control the magnitude and stability of the output voltage. When the REG pin receives a high level, the output voltage increases; when the REG pin receives a low level, the output voltage decreases. The REG pin can be used to implement functions such as power supply conversion and power management.

VREF (Pin 7)

The VREF pin is the reference voltage pin of the power management chip. It can provide a reference voltage for other circuits to use. The VREF pin is usually connected with an external resistor to adjust the output voltage. In some cases, the VREF pin can also be used to measure battery power, monitor output voltage, and more.

PGOOD (Pin 8)

The PGOOD pin is the output monitoring pin of the power management chip. It can detect whether the output voltage is normal, and output a corresponding signal. When the output voltage is normal, the PGOOD pin outputs a high level; when the output voltage is abnormal, the PGOOD pin outputs a low level. The PGOOD pin can be used to implement functions such as output voltage protection and output short circuit protection.

The above are typical 8 power management chip pins, different power management chips may have different pins and functions. When using a power management chip, you must carefully read the relevant data sheet, and select the appropriate pins and functions according to the actual situation.
